The next couple of weeks, I will continue this Futuristic but maybe not so much fantasy tale.
2017 Regular Season 12-4
2017 Playoffs 1st Round bye
Two years after winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and leading the Rams to their first (losing to the eventual NFC champion Seahawks) playoff game in over ten years last season is his second season, Johnny Mansel has his 12-4 team ready to play the 11-6 Panthers, a first round winner over Chicago, at home in this second round playoff game. The Rams opened as 51/2 point favorites and are currently favored by 7.
Many are saying that the Rams NFC west title run this year was tainted by free agent loses that Seattle experienced and San Francisco's Quarterback meltdown back in week 8 vs. the Rams. At last report, he is still showing signs of the R.Q. syndrome that seemed to have hit most of the Ram opposing quarterbacks this year. But the Rams had the leagues' most balanced offense this season and the defense that ranked in the top five in almost every category. And with two convincing wins over San Francisco and finally beating Seattle on their home field has left little doubt.
The Panthers defense was tough on their opponents also and maybe somewhat part of Drew Brees' decision to retire. But the Panthers have to be concerned about Mansel and the Rams running game. In the 2015 season match-up, Mansel ran for 118 yds. and threw for 289 and two touchdowns in a game the Rams won 31-13. This season, Coach Fisher and his staff have kept Mansel's rushing attempts down and given him more play calling which has made this offense operate much faster without hurting the run game.
1st Quarter- Tevon Austin has a 27yard catch during a 6 minute and 42 second drive that gives the Rams a 7-0 1st quarter lead.
2nd Quarter- Mansel leads The Rams down the field on a touchdown drive with 3 minutes left after Carolina had took a 14-10 lead to end the first half with a 17-14 lead.
3rd Quarter- Carolina opens the second half with a quick three but is shut down for the reminder of the game with the Rams ending the quarter with three of their own.
4th Quarter- With the game still at only 20-17 with a little over six minutes left. Mansel hits Quick on a slat that goes for 45 yards and the final score. After a fast Carolina three and out, the Rams run the ball 11 straight times to end the game.
