Remember back when we draft Jason Smith #2 overall in the 2009...yes I try to forget that as well. Well 17 picks later the Ravens draft Michael Oher. Flash forward and Jason Smith is...who knows where, and Michael Oher has struggled at both Left and Right Tackle. As per Pro football Focuses Rankings he graded out as 68th of 76 eligible tackles last year( as per Rotoworld), and it appears his days in Baltimore could be done.
Now I am under the assumption that Rodger Saffold will not be with us nextyear, I believe he played the part of the good soldier, and now will be going elsewhere at a price tag which the Rams will be unwilling/unable to pay him.
With his stock being relatively low at the moment after some down years, what do you guys think about the Rams picking him up on 2-year relatively inexpensive deal, say somewhere around 3 million a year? A comment that comes up in the conversation of the rams drafting a tackle in the first round "just think what Paul Boudreau could do with actual talent".
Well, Michael Oher was drafted in the first round and we know more about him than we will of any OT tackle prospect to be drafted in the first round this year. So for all the same reasons as it gets argued the rams should take; Greg Robinson, Taylor Lewan, Cyrus Kouandjio, or Jake Matthews in the first round. Either to bump Joe Barksdale to Guard, or to play as a guard until there is a need at tackle.
What do you guys think? Is Michael Oher a good option for the Rams? Does Jeff Fishers reluctance to draft lineman in the first round make it more likely?
