As many of you may know, tonight is the NFL's Award Show, where they hand out the "official" awards such as defensive player of the year, rookie of the year, etc. I was hoping to see Zac Stacy (for offensive rookie of the year), Alec Ogletree (for defensive rookie of the year), and Tavon Austin (for rookie of the year) receive more attention for their potential awards then they did. But of course since they are wearing Rams jerseys and not a Seahawks or Panthers jersey, the media could care less about them. The NFL is often more of an entertainment business, it cares more about pleasing the viewers then actually giving credit where credit is due. Now I'm not saying Stacy, Ogletree, and Tavon should have won, but they were almost completely ignored by media outlets despite eye popping numbers and huge contributions to our victories. So that left Quinn to be the last champion to represent us. The man who did so well it made it impossible for the media to completely ignore him (Now just imagine how much we would hear about Quinn if he was a 49er or Patriot). Quinn has been picking up DPOY awards left and right from other sports news and sports analytical organizations. After setting a franchise record in sacks, causing forced fumbles everywhere, grading out at the the top of the NFL in the run and pass game, and leading the league in QB hurries, I'd say it has been rightfully earned. But today NFL released a DPOY preview video (https://twitter.com/nfl/status/429675154260508673). That video contains four DPOY candidates: Kueckly (MLB for Panthers), Sherman (CB for Seahawks), Thomas (Safety for Seahawks), and Mathis (OLB for Colts). Go figure they are all players from popular, media favorite, playoff teams. Despite clearing being a common favorite for DPOY, Quinn wasn't even in the video. So what does this video mean? To me it means only one of two things, either 1. Quinn was omitted because he actually won and they are trying to make it a big surprise, or 2. The NFL either doesn't view Quinn as a Top 4 candidate, or he finished beyond 4th in voting. Now obviously anyone that knows anything about the NFL would laugh at the fact of Quinn not being in the Top 4 for DPOY. But I guess we will just have to wait until tonight to see if the NFL has once again forsaken awarding a player for true skills in order to better please the media and fans. For the record, my personal DPOY Power Rankings would be: 1. Quinn 2. Sherman 3. Watt 4. Mathis 5. Bowman 6. Kueckly and then 7. Thomas.
