I will start out with team cuts. I, unlike majority of Rams fans on TST, thought Langford had a very strong year and that he should not be cut. I believe we should cut Dahl, Wells, and Finnegan. These cuts, along with the 3 million increase in the NFL Salary Cap, we should have about 32 million. This number shrinks to about 12 however after weighing in inflations in the contracts of Cook, Jake Long and the draft. First and foremost we need to re-sign Saffold. His versatility is especially important with the oft-injured Jake Long playing tackle. Saffold also has all-pro potential as a guard, and he was instrumental in the Rams surge in the running game. Jarius Byrd, and the Browns safety are both monsters, but a team will either get franchised or get grossly overpaid. This being said, and with the lack of talent in this years safety class (should've double-dipped last year) we should go for a solid, relatively inexpensive safety. I think that T.J. is versatile enough to play both safety spots well, and I think the SS free agency pool is a lot deeper. I think we could sign Whitner or Clemons in 3-6 million range. I also think we should sign some cheap OL depth. I think that we should trade Chris Long and unload his hefty salary by trading him to the falcons. I think we could trade him for a second round pick if we gave ATL a 4th or 5th in exchange.
Onto the Draft.
I believe that we trade our #2 pick to the Browns for their #4, their 3rd rounder, and a first next year. Bridgewater and Manziel go number one and two respectively (order determined after combine/interviews). The number 3 overall pick I pray that the Jags indulge and take Bortles. This paves the way for...... CLOWNEY. I know Clowney is a project but he has immense talent and opposite of Quinn I believe he will have a tremendous year. With our #13 pick the Rams select the Alabama OT. In the 2nd round, with the browns pick, we go Cyril Richardson. With the Falcons 2nd rounder we go with the #1 DT on the board (Anthony Johnson, Timmy Jernigan???). With our two 3rd rounders we go #1 CB available (Roby??) and then BPA with WR.
For rounds 4-7
we go back-up QB, DB depth, OL depth
With this draft and off-season we would be solid almost everywhere but OLB (we play nickel most of the time anyway) and WR (praying for a Quick breakout).
Our starting line-up:
LT: Jake Long
LG: Cyril Richardson
C: Barret Jones/ Tim Barnes
RG: Rodger Saffold
RT: Cyrus Kouandjio
WR: Tavon Austin
TE: Jared Cook
Defensive End: Clowney, Quinn- Hayes as depth
Defensive Tackle: Brockers, Langford - Jernigan as depth
CB: JJ and Tru
Nickel Corners: Mcgee, Roby
This leaves us with a monstrous, mauling offensive line and it will allow for our running game to be dominant-opening up the pass for a healthy Sam and better-polished receivers. We also shore up our secondary by adding Whitner/Clemons and Roby. We also get younger on both the offensive and defensive line and draft an unbelievable talent like Clowney. This off-season also leaves us with some ammo to potentially move up and take a QB next year by seizing the Browns 1st rounder. This offseason would push is into the elite tier of the NFL and a consistent string of playoff appearances would ensue.
