So the weekend has past and as we see it right now, I'm wondering if this is the roster that we are going into the season with? Let's ask some real questions that sit within the realm of possibility within the next week or so:
1. Isaiah Pead trade? Yep I said it! Let's face it, the preseason is all just a chance to evaluate those you think can help your team and a time to profile someone you are willing to let go for some compensation. Maybe part with a 5th or 6th rounder for him? If he was miserable last year, imagine how he will be this year being #4 on the depth chart? Might there be another out there that will give us the security that we need in a ball carrier? I think he can still be a weapon, but that's just me.
2. Rodger Saffold trade? Would he be better off going to someone else's organization to be their LT for a bigger back or late round draft pick? Is there a better option out there on the wire for the RT position? Don't know if there is but the wire is loaded with both rookies and vets. I doubt this trade would happen but stranger things have happened in the NFL.
3. Rocky McIntosh? - He was let go by the Detroit Lions in their quest to cut down to the 53 this past weekend. He would be an additional veteran presence on a very young linebacker corps who would have fresh knowledge the system. Don't know if this is a good move as it all depends on what he has left in the tank and what he can offer to the team.
His stats show that he was involved and contributed heavily to the defense last season and although he may be on the decline in his career, he is still able to provide some good snaps:
|Year||Tackles||Sacks||Interceptions||Fumb||Misc||KO Ret||Punt Ret|
4. JoLonn Dunbar's last season with the Rams? - Hey we really needed him this year! At this point in his career it is hard for me to believe that this was all accidental and that he truly did not know what he was ingesting or anything like that. So he will pay for this mistake with a 4 game suspension which usually signifies more than a single offense. So the real question is whether he can leave those PEDs alone and stop putting the team at risk, along with his long term health. If he can't, this is more than likely his last year with the Rams, especially after Jeff Fisher's comments about the suspension.
"First and foremost, we're very, very disappointed in his choices and his decisions. It's selfish. It hurts the team, but we also see it as an opportunity to learn from a mistake. We discussed it with the entire squad last night, and I think everybody understands the responsibilities that each and every player has as far as taking care of themselves and what you can do and what you can't do. So, we're looking at this as it's behind us, we're going to learn from a mistake."
Honestly, I hope this guy finds a way to stay around for years to come, just without the extra baggage.
So which scenario do you this is most plausible? Let me know and thanks for reading!
