I just finished watching the disappointing loss by the Rams to the Falcons and I can't help but notice how many little mistakes we made that would have changed the game, perhaps enough to win it. A careless offsides penalty on Chris Long on the first drive to extend a TD drive that would have started 3 and out. An off day by Jared Cook where he looked out of sync with the offense and lacked hustle. A drop by Tavon. Countless special teams penalties. All ending with James Laurinaitis not covering his coverage assignment out of the back field on 3rd and 2 allowing the Falcons to get a first down and effectively end the game. So many little things.
I want to say that we are a young team and that these things will get better. We will mature. We will grow. But I can't help but notice that several of these biggest mistakes were made by established veterans (Long and Laurinaitis) and some of the more mature moments were made by rookies (Tavon with 2 scores, neither of which did he celebrate because his team was losing).
I knew this was going to be a tough game, but this loss stings. We need to pull the slack out of this group of youngsters, and veterans. Fisher needs to get this team fired up. This is the NFL and we have talent. We are a few breaks one way or the other from winning or losing almost every game. We need to make sure more breaks go our way.
Until next week...
