31's Picks Week 2

It looks like week one was good and bad to me. I did fairly well picking the games straight up as some would say, but I did pretty bad against the spread. The ones that really hurt me, although all of them did in technical terms, was the Patriots, Steelers, and Falcons, who all seemed like obvious choices to me at the time. But that is how the cookie crumbles when you play against the spread. After the jump, my results and picks, along with some analysis on the Rams upcoming game.

So, here's my results from last weeks great first week (for the straight up anyways):

Week 1 Results Wins Losses
Straight Up 11 5
Spread 6 10

As you can see, I came out extremely well in the straight up category, where my only losses came from Falcons, Steelers, Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Browns (I should have known better). My upset of the week also came through with the Eagles defeating Washington on Monday night football. When it comes to the spread, I can accept that in the first week, although of course, I expect to do better as the year goes along. I thought I was going to do much worse so I'm kinda happy with it. So, without further or due, here's this week's picks.

Rams vs Falcons

This game is my most intriguing game of the week for many reasons, but the biggest reason is it gives us a chance to see what exactly our defense can do up against an elite offense. As you have seen above, I actually have the Rams beating the Falcons and no, it's not be being a homer why I say this. Sure, the Falcons are at home in this game, but they could be without two of the best receivers in White and Jones, are did not practice on Wednesday and it's questionable if White plays on Sunday. Also, their left tackle Sam Baker and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux did play as well, meanwhile, our squad is healthy. Their secondary is relatively young (sounds familiar), while our offense shouldn't see them blitz as much as we saw against the Cardinals. With their corners not as good as the Cardinals, Sam should get some time back in the pocket to get the offense up the field. The main point that I'll be watching in this game is to see if this team improves on the penalties. To put it quite simply, this team can not afford to make mental mistakes against such a good team, or this game will be over at halftime. I think the Rams win this game 24-20.

St. Louis Rams Results Win Loss
Straight Up 1 0
Spread 0 1

Hope you have a good time watching the games, peace!
