Rams vs. Broncos Pregame Prediction by Stats

Hi Rams fans! If you don’t like stat based articles…. now is the time to find something else to keep you awake at work! My last article created somewhat of a Bru-Ha-Ha and we don’t need any more of that!

So let’s have a look at the Team Statistics after two preseason games:

The first glaring discrepancy is the Broncos 3rd down conversion rate is 4% better than our own. I find it interesting that in two games we’ve outperformed Denver in Total Offensive Yds, Average Yds, Total Passing Yds, and have a slightly better average rushing yards per play having run 20 fewer rushes! True Mr. Manning has been on the field very little but I find it still surprising considering how bad I felt we played in the first two game. I guess Denver is has a few problems to work out just like we do. The more I look at this chart the more I wonder what is going on with the Broncos.

I really want to look closer at the passing statistics and see what’s up:

Hey you have to like this! Both Sam and Peyton have the exact same attempts(20), and completions(13). Sam has 258 yards compared to Peyton’s measly little 176. Ole Sammy is putting up 4.1 more yards per completion than that old man is. The bad news is Denver’s back-up QB’s make ours look like dirt bags! Maybe we can trade Clemens for Osweiler? Does that mean our receivers are actually getting better? I’m not sure so let’s take a look again and compare them to Denver.

All I can say is that it looks like their best receiver would be number 5 on our roster based on the preseason performance so far. Not to mention we are showing that explosive plays are starting to become common place, instead of the dink and dunk. Of course with Peyton out of the game that might change for the Broncos once the real games begin.

I want to highlight a part of Denver that some teams may overlook. And that is they have a great punter, and return squad. Take a look at Britton Colquitt’s punts…..4 within the 20 yard line so far. Also note Trindon Holliday has a 15.4 yds/ret on punts, and 25 yds/ret on kickoffs.

Rushing results show that Denver’s best player in the preseason has been C.J. Anderson with a 4.6 YPA. The best we’ve been able to show so far is Benny Cunningham logging a 3.5. DRich is being hidden for the most part so I’m not too worried about the rushing battles going on.

Why we should win this game:

Denver’s D is not the same as it was last year, and the roster is currently full of injured players who may or may not be back in time for this game. Bronco’s pass rush is hurting and I don’t think their secondary is up to stopping much we do in the passing game. I imagine that we will play the first squad all the way through to half time. After the rant our Defense surely received about missing tackles, I expect them to come out with a good show this time.
