All this excitement about our 2013 Rams and the opening of camp reminds me of a wonderful memory of my childhood, well I wasn't exactly a child, but I wasn't able to drive yet. The year was 1990, and I had tagged along with all my friends and gone to watch the Rams training camp. I remember how much I hated Chris Everette, but how much I loved Henry Ellard and Flipper. All day we were planning on how we can get to our favorite players, at what point would we get them to sign our hats, or shirts or whatever. I had a seriously disappointing day at getting anywhere close enough to even talk to anyone that was recognizable, and then we had our chance, the defense had broken for the day and the linebackers had gone to the makeshift outdoor weight room, it only had a short chain link fence around it. I could see Frank Stams and one of my heros..Kevin Greene. We approached cautiously, we sat there and stared for what seemed like hours, and finally built up enough courage to approach them. They were just sitting around bullshitting and we thought it was a perfect time. In a shy voice I asked, Mr Greene, if it isn't too much of a problem could you please sign my shirt, and he turns around and yells...Hey Fuck off kid, can't you see we are busy. It was awesome, my friends were certain that he was seconds away from pommeling me, i was scared shitless, I am not upset about it, heck to me it was the best possible outcome. I would have lost that shirt over time, forgot that he was a nice guy and signed my shirt, but instead I have a memory that will last me forever, and what do you expect from one of the meanest sons of a gun to ever play for the Rams, in the Georgia F era. Please feel free to share your most lasting and loving memory from training camp.
