First, he will be asking for too much money. Mikell was due 9 million dollars for this upcoming season, but the Rams cut him, which was s smart move. They used that cap space to help create room for Jake Long, Jared Cook, and draft picks. I don't imagine that he would ask for anything close to 9 million, but he will most likely ask for more than we want to sign him for.
Second, he is too old. He will be 33 when the season starts. I know some of you want him for veteran leadership for the safeties, but I think that Cortland Finnegan can provide that for all the DB's. Plus, our defensive coordinator has a good history with safeties. Mikell's production will probably go down this year, and last year he had average numbers at best. Last year, he had 101 tackles, 3 sacks, and 0 interceptions. You can't really expect those numbers to go up. The tackle numbers are good, but he is a defensive back and needs to get some takeaways.
Third, he plays the same style as third round pick T.J. McDonald. McDonald is the same type of player as Quintin Mikell, they both are in the box, stop-the-run-first safeties The big difference, of course, is that McDonald is younger, and has much more of an upside than the 33 year old Mikell. I also think McDonald is better.
