Looking for something ridiculous to lighten up your Sunday? How about this Mike Florio generated rumor about the St. Louis Rams and Tim Tebow?
Word leaked out on Saturday that the Seattle Seahawks had some interest in the Jets third string quarterback. That was quickly turned around, but when Tim Tebow's name gets into the news, one report is never enough to end the party. Pro Football Talk kept hope alive by telling readers, with no evidence whatsoever, to keep an eye on the Rams as a potential landing spot for Tebow.
Here's the offending paragraph:
One team to watch is the Rams, for two reasons. Last year, the Rams were expected to make a run at Tebow after a snag emerged in trade talks between the Broncos and Jets. Also, with 25 percent of the Rams' schedule including the 49ers and Seahawks (along with games against the Titans and Panthers), it makes sense to have a mobile quarterback who can run the scout team.
So, the Rams could spend more money than necessary and incur way more headache than the team ever wanted just to have a practice squad quarterback.
The Rams' interest in Tebow last year was a strange free agent rumor. It most likely originated with his agent, but don't let that stop anyone from rewriting history.
Something Florio overlooks here is that the Rams did pretty well against Seattle and San Francisco last season, even without Tim Tebow to run the practice squad. I know, surprising, right?
The Rams still have just two quarterbacks on the roster with Sam Bradford and Austin Davis. One way or another, the Rams will have to add a third quarterback this year, either through the draft or a bargain priced free agent.
