We don't know the particulars of the St. Louis Rams 2013 schedule yet. Which teams the Rams will play in which week have yet to be announced. What we do know is which teams the Rams will play and where they will play them. That tells us a few things about the season ahead, including one interesting quirk of the schedule that will have the Rams playing most of the season indoors.
Of the 16 games the Rams will play this season, 13 of them are inside a dome. That includes the eight home games on the docket as well as tilts in Arizona, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Indianapolis. Now, several of those places have retractable roofs, but that still counts as an indoor stadium by most standards.
The only three road games without a roof over their heads are in Charlotte, San Francisco and Seattle.
Have to give the hat tip here to CBS' fantasy guru Dave Richard, who also added in some context to the indoor schedule:
Don't remember last time a team played 13 dome games in a season but Rams will in '13. @cg1three went 29-487-3 indoors (8gms) last yr.— Dave Richard (@daverichard) April 5, 2013
There are some other players on the roster that might benefit from playing inside, besides Givens. If the Rams can get Isaiah Pead going, you have to think that his speed would be a real asset to working indoors on turf.
It certainly doesn't hurt Sam Bradford. Last season, Bradford had a QB rating of 86.8 for indoor games versus a 77.5 for outdoor games.
Kicker Greg Zuerlein could be poised for a big follow up season to his already impressive rookie year with 13 games to kick indoors. Of course, kicking outside at Soldier Field didn't seem to bother him, but maybe that distance record is in play this season.
Think about this for the draft too. If the Rams are serious about Tavon Austin, his speed on turf for a bakers dozen would look awfully nice in Monday's box scores.
