Try to remain calm. The NFL has released the 2013 preseason schedule, and the St. Louis Rams get to play one of their exhibition games in prime time on network television. Yes, all the world will get to see Austin Davis and the other backups take the field against the Denver Broncos and their backups. Sort of.
The Rams travel to Denver on August 24 for a Week 3 date with the Broncos. Because it's Week 3 of the preseason, hopefully fans will at least get to see a full half of each team's starters running a full quarter of the playbook. That would most likely exclude Peyton Manning, whose preseason appearances are few and far between.
Here is what the Rams' preseason schedule looks like:
Week 1, Aug. 8-11: at Cleveland Browns
Week 2, Aug. 15-19: vs. Green Bay Packers
Week 3, Aug. 25: at Denver Broncos
Week 4, Aug. 29-30: vs. Baltimore Ravens
Exact dates for the other three weeks have yet to be determined.
The Rams played the Ravens in the final game of the 2012 preseason. You remember that one, when Jeff Fisher played his starters for most of the first half. It was there that Michael Brockers suffered the high ankle sprain that kept him on the shelf for the first four games of the regular season. A rematch against the Ravens is a little more interesting because they are the defending champs ... and some of the backups the Rams will see that week were part of that Super Bowl winning team.
No game against the Chiefs this preseason or in the regular season.
These are preseason games, so they carry only marginal interest for even the most die-hard fans. Remember how exciting it is to have football back in the first week of the preseason, and then be totally sick of preseason football within 24 hours?
Remember, preseason football usually costs the same as regular season football games ... with about half the fun.
