2013 NFL Draft: Updated Rams Needs (Day 3)

USA TODAY Sports

What's left for the Rams to address?

So far the Rams have filled many of their needs in the NFL draft. They solved the hole at slot WR and kick returner with Tavon Austin. They brought in an outside linebacker to fill a need of the defense in Alec Ogletree. TJ McDonald is penciled be a starting safety for the Rams. Finally, Stedman Bailey will help replace the role Brandon Gibson played for the Rams.

The Rams are likely to finish off this draft using a best player available strategy, but those "best players" will all likely come from these positions that the Rams still need to fill.

Offense Line

I still have no idea who is going to play left guard for this team. Rokevious Watkins or Shelley Smith may be penciled in to start right now, but neither is a player I would feel confident starting. The Rams will be looking to at least add some competition at left guard. The Rams also need to be looking at centers and tackles. Scott Wells is up there in age, and is no longer dependable due to injuries. Roger Saffold is on the last year of his contract, and he may leave to play LT in free agency. I would be shocked if the Rams did not pick an offensive linemen in rounds 4-6.

Defensive Line

The Rams have a great defensive line. Chris Long, William Hayes, Robert Quinn, Michael Brockers and Kendall Langford are a tremendous unit, but there is little depth behind them. Adding a young developmental defensive lineman would be a smart move by the Rams. Keeping a good rotation is important to keep players fresh for the 4th quarter.

Running Back

The Rams lost Steven Jackson and have done nothing to replace him yet. The team is high on Isiah Pead and Daryl Richardson. Richardson was productive his rookei year and Pead has potential, but either player has much power. Adding a RB who can grind out tough yards is a necessity for the Rams rushing attack in 2013. Luckily for the Rams, there are still a lot of great options at RB in the next couple of rounds

Safety

TJ McDonald fills up one of the safety spots. The Rams may have confidence in Darian Stewart (he sat behind Craig Dahl, eww) or they may be planning to resign Quintin Mikell, so they may not see this as a need anymore. Until I know the Rams are bringing in a veteran to start opposite of McDonald, I still see this as a need.

Cornerback

The Rams corners are a major strength, but they did let Bradley Fletcher walk in free agency. There is currently only 3 corners the Rams can count on in 2013 - Cortland Finnegan, Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins. In today's NFL you need at least four dependable corner backs, and five would be better.
