2013 NFL Draft: Day Two Grades for the Rams

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

How did the Rams come out of day 2?

Yesterday, I gave out my grades for the Rams first round. Let's take a look at how the Rams did on day two of the draft.

3rd round Pick 71, TJ McDonald: B+

This pick is very controversial for Rams fans, many of whom are from LA, and are USC fans. I think it is a good pick. TJ is a big, fast and strong safety. His range is great. He hits hard. He has a high football IQ. He does have some major weaknesses to his game, but he is a third round pick. He struggle wrapping up on tackles. He isn't as quick as one would like. He struggled in coverage as a senior.

In the end though, the Rams found a likely starter at FS to replace Craig Dahl in the third round. His speed and size will be a large upgrade over Craig Dahl. This is a good pick. I do question taking McDonald over Bacarri Rambo, but the Rams may have valued McDonald's physicality highly.

3rd round Pick 92, Stedman Bailey: A

The Rams brought in one half of the best WR tandem from the 2012 college season in the first round with Tavon Austin. They decided to bring in the other half in the 3rd round in Stedman Bailey. West Virginia now is full of Rams fans.

This has been my favorite picks of the draft for the Rams. I like it more than the Tavon Austin pick, because he is a tremendous value at this point. Bailey is a well rounded WR. He is fast, he is quick, he runs great routes, he is strong for his size, and he has amazing hands. What brings he down is he is under 6' only being 5' 10" and he's not an elite athlete.

He was also tremendously productive in college. His senior year he had over 1600 receiving yards and 25 TDs. Bailey knows how to get open. He is going to be able to help replace what Brandon Gibson did for the Rams offense, hopefully with more consistency.
