Add another name to the St. Louis Rams' list of prospect visits ahead of the 2013 NFL Draft. This latest name is a familiar one, Oregon offensive tackle Kyle Long. In case you've been wandering around the dehydrated bumps of the Sinai, that's Chris Long's younger brother.

Jake Long is not related, but that won't stop local pundits from pulling out all the stops when it comes to triple-Long nickname concepts.
Yokel yapping aside, Long is a player, um, long on upside. He's naturally athletic, having been a baseball player and a defensive end over the course of his college career. Long made it quite clear at the Combine that being athletic was a premium for linemen in Chip Kelly's system there. He finished up as a guard for the Ducks, but he spent some time at tackle too. He's projected as a second-round pick.
I'll be interested to see whether or not Long is ready to take the field in his rookie season. He clearly has the talent, but defensive linemen at this level can burn a blocker with even the slightest holes in his technique. He clearly picked up the game pretty quickly through college.
There's some debate about whether he should play on the inside or outside at the pro level. He plays a little high in his stance and is a little stiff now to work on the outside, but those are all technique issues that offensive line coach Paul Boudreau has a knack for ironing out.
