Total Number of Rams Draft Picks Since 1995: 156
Total Number of 6th Round Draft Picks Since 1995: 17
↳ 10.9% of overall picks
Interestingly, the Rams haven’t even averaged one 6th round selection over the course of the past 18 years. It should be noted that a team who utilizes it’s seven draft picks [sans trades] would have each round account for 14.3% of their entire draft.
It’s clear the Rams aren’t shy about offering their 6th round pick to another NFL organization. Additionally, as pointed out in the 7th Rounders article, the Rams have used almost twice as many [33] of their 156 selections on 7th round players.
As far as the players themselves... there’s still not a lot to write home about. Greg Zuerlein - the teams 2012 6th rounder - lead the team in points, and has shown that he can kick field goals from distance. Aside from Legatron, Eugene Sims is the only other 6th rounder currently on the roster. Matt Bowen, drafted in 2000, won the team’s Carroll Rosenbloom [Rookie of the Year] Award. He broke his foot in the 2001 season opener, and next thing he knew he was wearing a cheese wedge hat and watching Brett Favre from the sidelines on a weekly basis.
Are there any of the Rams 6th round selections which have provided you with fond football memories or headache-inducing woes? Was there a player that you were hoping the Rams would take in the 6th and instead they selected a guy who remained on the roster as long as you did?
Stick around, because tomorrow there will only be FIVE days remaining until the 2013 NFL Draft, and we’re going to take a look at what the St. Louis Rams have done to bolster their roster with 5th round players.
