The 2013 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, so you know what that means, it's time for the rumors and smokescreens to begin. Anyone who has followed the draft knows that, and this year it doesn't appear to be any different. News reporters will ask scouts and other NFL personnel their opinion on players and sometimes they will just flat out lie.
But it's the nature of the beast. The way I see it, would anyone want Jeff Fisher to appear on NFL Network and tell us how much he loves Tavon Austin (TST fan favorite)? There's no way in hell he won't let him make it to any other team. No, because another team like the 49ers could leapfrog the St. Louis Rams and cause Jeff Fisher to shave his mustache, hypothetically speaking.
Which is why I'm not surprised that news/rumors about Cordarrelle Patterson are coming out now. Lance Zierlein has stated that NFL officials have said that Patterson could fall out of the first round, because of poor interviews. Also it's important to note that Patterson also showed red flags at the combine.
Cordarrelle Patterson red flags all over today, from his on-field position drills to reports of bad performances during interviews. Hmmm...— Matty I (@TheMattyI) February 25, 2013
So if these Patterson sources are right, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Rams will have a decision to make with the 22nd pick of the draft.
The Rams need a wide receiver, a play maker to go along with Chris Givens, Austin Pettis, Brian Quick and Jared Cook. Paterson might be raw as a receiver, but he can impact the game in other ways while he's learning how the NFL game is played, kickoff returns, some running back, I also think he could play some slot. Basically get the ball in his hands.
Trade the pick away
This is an option even without Patterson being available. A team could fall in love with a player and want to trade for the Rams' 22nd pick. Most likely a quarterback needy team or a team that drafted earlier in the first round decides that they want Patterson or another player that fell through the cracks.
Draft someone else
If the Rams aren't offered a good trade or don't want to draft Patterson, that will mean that they have to draft someone else. Who could that player be? Who knows, I'm sure if this scenario happens, the Rams will draft BPA. Obviously there's no way of knowing who that player is, who knows it could end up Patterson.
