I expect a lot of jumping in this years draft. Unfortunately for the Rams, the top two WR's (on my board) could be prospects teams are willing to jump up the draft board in order to secure.
The New England Patriots signed restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanual Sanders to an offer sheet this morning leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers with Antonio Brown, the ghosts of Mike Wallace and Santonio Holmes to play wide receiver. The Steelers are rumored to be in love with Tennessee wideout, Cordarrelle Patterson and now look as if they could be poised to move up in the draft to nab their man. The third round pick the Steelers would gain if they lose Sanders could be just what it takes in order for them to hop scotch right over the Rams…and they may not be the only team to make that jump.
The San Francisco 49ers are stocked to the teeth with draft picks and have been rumored to like West Virginia WR Tavon Austin. Speculation about the 49ers trading up for the human joystick has been gaining steam as we inch closer to the draft. There is no doubt Austin would be a nice fit in the 49ers scheme and add versatility to an already diverse attack.
If Austin and Patterson are gone by the times the Rams pick, some may look to Keenan Allen out of Cal or DeAndre Hopkins out of Clemson. Both are very capable wide receivers, but neither offer the dynamic playmaking ability of Austin and Patterson.
This draft is promising to be a wild ride. Buckle up.
