Rams Must Trade Down to Compete with Niners & Hawks

Jim Brown-US PRESSWIRE

This year's draft is not deep when it comes to top talent. Having seen the tactics and strategies in last year's draft by Les Snead and Jeff Fischer to trade back -not once...but twice - the Rams should be looking to trade down for more picks again.

In my opinion, the second round and third round talent is more intriguing than the first round talent. By loading up with second round picks and third round picks, the Rams will be able to fill depth and could potentially find a few guys who could be difference and play makers (ex: Janoris Jenkins, Chris Givens). Plus, adding youth to the team only gives them more upside: the team is already the youngest in the NFL, so why not keeping pushing the youth movement.

With that being the only reason the Rams should not trade back is if Cordarelle Patterson, Jarvis Jones, Chance Warmack, or Kenny Vaccaro fall in the draft.

Trading Down Scenario: Trade Pick 16 to Cincinnati for 2nd Round Pick - #37 and #53. Trade Pick 22 to Philadelphia for 2014 2nd Round Pick and a 2013 3rd Round Pick #67

#37 : Justin Hunter - WR (Tennessee) - Hunter has a high ceiling plus he has a 6'4 frame

#46 : Eddy Lacy - RB (Alabama) - Jeff Fischer wants a power back; Richardson, Pead, Lacy???

#53 : Kyle Long - RG/RT (Oregon) - Why not bring another "Long" to St. Louis? Howie. Chris. Kyle is certain to be good.

#67 : DJ Swearinger - S (South Carolina) - Rams are desperate at safety. Watch out for Baltimore looking for safeties...

#78 : Jelani Jenkins - OLB (Florida) OR Kasheem Greene - OLB (Rutgers) - The Rams need another linebacker beside Dunbar and Laurinaitis

#113: Barrett Jones - OG/C/OT (Alabama) OR TJ McDonald - S (USC) - The Rams could also use depth on the o-line because of the injury bug always plaguing them over recent years - If Jones isn't available, the Rams could look to add another safety b/c of Dahl's departure, plus Dahl was terrible in the first place

#149: Kenny Stills - WR (Oklahoma) OR Jordan Hill - DT (Penn State) - Stills would love to work with Bradford, a former Sooner himself...
