Jake Long deciding between the and Dolphins and Rams

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Should he stay or should he go?

Jake Long was back at his old stomping grounds this weekend. After leaving St. Louis, Long returned to Miami and was at the Dolphins' headquarters listening to his old team's new pitch. He is now deciding between the Rams and the Dolphins.

Offers from the Rams and Dolphins are reportedly very similar, according to the NFL Network. It could come down to the details of the deal and personal preference.

Both offers are probably a bit of a disappointment to Long. He was reportedly seeking something in the neighborhood of $11 million per year. He made more than $12 million last season on the last year of his rookie deal. Two seasons marred by injuries that hurt his Pro Bowl-level of play, a glut of tackles available and a market squeezing free agents are probably giving Long a culture shock, exposing the gulf in perceived value and reality.

He's probably going to have to settle for something around $8 million per season, though the annual average value of NFL contracts matters much less than how the deal is structured. Long might be looking at an incentive-laden contract, given his injury history or maybe something with less guaranteed money than he wants.

We'll know soon enough, surely?
