I saw a lot of Rams fans complaining in the Cook evaluating blog about how he quit on his team, drops balls, and can't block worth a damn, and then I saw even more fans complaining when they heard that he's getting paid 8 million per year.
Only at the end of the comments, when someone strained really hard to look at the bright side and made the point that Cook was basically going to be a receiver for the Rams, and that therefore the 8 million a year wasn't so bad compared to paying Jennings 10 million per year or Amendola a lot of money, did I see some Rams fans saying maybe you're right, maybe that's not so bad overall.
But if the point was to have a bigger wide receiver, why didn't the Rams just trade a 6th for Anquan Boldin? Boldin is big, like Cook, and unlike Cook he's an amazing blocker for a wide receiver, and has fantastic hands. And his cap hit is only 6-million. And he's consistent as hell. And never quits on his team. And a great leader.
He's just a better player. Better, cheaper, more consistent, less question marks, smaller cap-hit, less risk in the term of the deal, and you keep him from going to the 49ers.
So the way I see it, if Cook is going to be a tight end for the Rams, he's overpaid. And if he's going to be a receiver, then it was still a dumb move because they should have just gotten Boldin and kept him from going to their division rival. What do you guys think?
