Rams to cut Quintin Mikell per report

USA TODAY Sports

The Rams will officially cut the veteran safety tomorrow per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

According to Adam Schefter, which means it's going to happen, the Rams will release safety Quintin Mikell on Monday.

The Rams will lose Mikell's $9 million dollar cap hit this season and due $6 million.

The move comes as a bit of a shock. Mikell played well last season after he began to play an in-the-box safety role. He did struggle in coverage quite a bit though.

The Rams now need to add two new starting safeties for next season, which likely means the Rams will use both the draft and free agency for the safety position.

Louis Delmas is a fine FS from the Lions and is a free agent. The connection with the Rams new defensive coordinator, Tim Walton, the ex-Lions' defensive backs coach, cannot be ignored.
