The 2012 St. Louis Rams made huge strides this last year and I see more improvement coming. The biggest weakness I see for the Rams are on the offensive line and safety position. I wish we could plug all the holes with this year’s upcoming draft but I don’t see that happening. I am like most of you and do not understand how the cap works but it looks like we have 10 million to work with. Cutting players like Jackson, Mikell and Hunter could put us up over the 20 million mark. We will have money to work with but we need to fill a lot of positions. I have provided two mock drafts because there is a possibility of a player dropping that we should jump all over. I also feel that we will trade our second 1st round pick to some team looking for a certain player. This player is Manti Tao. After his debacle, I think he will slide down to us and a team like the Houston who needs help at LB and is looking for a Super Bowl ring soon. We will drop down to the 27th spot and pick up an extra third round selection.
Mock Draft #1
Round 1 – 16th overall pick will be Jarvis Jones - LB. This is the player I was talking about who may drop since there are medical concerns. If this were to happen we would have to jump all over this and take what could be the best overall player in the draft. If he falls into our lap we would have to be stupid not to pick him.
Round 1 – 27th overall pick will be Matt Elam - S. Mikell will be cut and Dahl needs to be replaced, the safety position needs to be addressed. Elam is a great player that is pro ready and fills a big need.
Round 2 - 46 overall pick will be Da’Rick Rogers – WR. Even though I feel our WR’s did well this last year I still think we need to address that position. I just don’t think we need to pick one in the first round. Rogers is a round 1 talent with some baggage but Fisher has never been afraid to take a chance.
Round 3 - 78th overall pick will be Justin Pugh - G/T. Justin Pugh is a good player who can play both guard and tackle. From what I’m hearing, guard is the position he fits best in the NFL.
Round 3 - 89th overall pick will be William Gholston – DE/DT. He has the versatility to play both positions on the defensive line. He has great talent and could end up being a diamond in the rough.
Round 4 - 110th overall pick will be Oday Aboushi – T. We need help on the offensive line and he fills a need.
Mock Draft #2
Round 1 – 16th overall pick will be Chance Warmack – G. There really isn’t anything I can say that you don’t already know.
Round 1 – 27th overall pick will be Matt Elam – S. Read above.
Round 2 – 46th overall pick will be Da’Rick Rogers – WR. Read above.
Round 3 – 78th overall pick will be Chris Faulk – T. Faulk is coming off an injury and may not be ready for the NFL combine. This will be good for us because he is talented enough to go in the first round. This also fits a major need.
Round 3 – 89th overall pick will be William Gholston – DE/DT. Read above.
Round 4 – 110th overall pick will be Gerald Hodges – LB. This fills a position of need and may be the best player available at the time.
Well, there is my 2 cents on how we should attack the draft. Please give your thoughts.
