Sheldon Richardson: Can the Rams pass on him?

The obvious answer is YES. The Rams don't need to use another first round pick on a DT this year. But I'll explain why I think the Rams should, in fact, take the "Old man Football" basher if he is available at 16.

I've had the privilege(not really a good thing) of watching Mizzou football for the past few years. Its been easy to see who would project well in the NFL on a few of their past teams. Aldon Smith, Sean Weatherspoon, DX Missile, Jeremy Maclin, William Moore and Ziggy Hood all looked like stars for the next level. Well, in my opinion, Richardson looked like the most consistently dominant player out of the Tiger alums.

The St. Louis native(Gateway Tech) posted 75 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 pass deflections, and forced 3 fumbles and also recovering 2 lost pigskins in 2012 while starting all 11 games he played in.

The stats don't tell the whole story of how disruptive Big Shell has been. The South Carolina game was a perfect example of how quick he can get off the snap and hound down the ball carrier. But even when Richardson can't bring him down at the line he is relentless in pursuit often making a tackle from behind the play. He has a knack for ripping the ball out as well, something the Rams D would be happy to have. Versus Alabama's all-pro line he held his own pretty well. He sometimes gets pushed back on the initial punch, lacking lower body strength it seems, but sheds off of his blocks like few in the nation can. He uses his hands effectively and whatever D-Line coach gets his hands on him should be pretty happy to have this big fella. And he is relentless and wants to punish anyone in his way. If you don't believe me watch any game this year. You don't have to be a scout to see it.

Like almost any potential 1st round pick, the RS Junior has his question marks. Can he add more strength? Does he have enough experience after 2 years at JUCO and 13 starts at Mizzou? Will he continue to ignite locker room material to fire up the opposition? (see old man football)

Luckily for Richardson, Jeff Fisher does not seem to care about shying away from guys with troubles or who want to be that "bad bad man" (see Janoris) He absolutely can gain strength and experience apparently isn't everything.(See Brockers)

While Sheldon Richardson is not first on my wish list at 16 he certainly would be a welcome addition in my eyes. Value lines up too as many see him as top 15 pick. If you can take the strength of your football team and make it even stronger, I think you pull the trigger and ask questions later. Langford is paid like a starter and he should remain the starter, this year, but soon Sheldon will take over right next to Brockers, Quinn, and Long. You can never have enough DT's as much as Fisher has rotated the line in 2012. Defense is what made the Rams relevant in 2012. Defense is what is gonna win the NFC West in the future. I'm on board the Sheldon Richardson in Horns train for 2013.

This was my first fan post. Let me know what you think I'm hoping for some healthy criticism.
