The 49ers can say what they want but there is no way that they wanted to be paying a back up QB as much as Smith was getting paid. Not only did the Chiefs just free up the 49ers cap space but they gave them an early second round pick in a draft filled with talented second rounders. The Chiefs, however, felt that a second was not enough. The Chiefs are also parting ways with a conditional 4th in 2014. The 49ers now have 300 picks in the 2013 NFL draft and some useful cap space to use. The Chiefs just traded all of that for a player that already proved he cannot perform well without a ton of talent around him, which I don't feel the Chiefs have. I clearly don't understand this move and I feel that Goodell should step in and disallow the trade similarly to how Stern vetoed the Lakers trade for Chris Paul. That was a joke but does not make me feel much better. All I can say is I am glad I am not a Chiefs fan.
