If you are hoping for some action in FA this year, you are out of your mind. Rams are $3.1M over the salary cap with little wiggle room. Wayne Hunter will give us $4M, but that barely gets us under the cap. Releasing Harvey Dahl is sad but necessary. The man is worth $4M with no attachments. Everyone felt that we could release Quintin Mikell, but we all forgot about his $14M Guarantee :-) which gives him $6M Dead Money. I believe $5M of that amount reflects into this year, if not all. Our best hope is to negotiate with him, and hope he gives us a $2M cap relief. Worst case scenerio, we release him, and get a $4M cap relief this year, and $1M dead money next season. That is exactly what will happen unless SJax decides to leave town. Let's say, SJax leaves, and we release: Wayne, Harvey, and Quintin, then we will be sitting at $15.9M under the cap with about $7.5M reserved for the incoming rookie class. $8.4M for FA may look ok, but that is hardly the case. Unless Amendola is satisfied with a 4 yr/$24M deal with an $8M signing bonus, he is leaving town also.
Most of this craziness was caused by the previous regime, but giving JL55 $11M bonus this season was our pretty boy GM. The future may look bright, but it is at the price of our past. If SJax stays, he probably will get traded or maybe even released. He is definitely not staying with that contract. Amendola is probably not coming back. Next season wont be spectacular either with Saffold and Dunbar hitting the market. We are committed to the draft, and FA is not in our future.
