2014 NFL Draft: A conundrum

Upcoming free agents:

Rodger Saffold T

Tim Barnes C

Kellen Clemens QB

Matt Giordano S

Garrett Lindholm K

Ryan McKee T

Mike McNeill TE

Shelley Smith OG

Darian Stewart S

Chris Williams OG

Will Witherspoon OLB

The way I see it, however optimistic and/or irrational it may be, there is only 1 player we absolutely need to keep: Roger Saffold, he has the skill-set, size and speed to play any of the line positions and is a very important piece to our offensive line playing either OG or RT. He’s had a few injuries therefor I believe a deal can get done, the only reason I see him leaving is if he truly has a passion for playing LT, if it’s just for the money I believe he would be best suited for a 2 year contract so if either party wanted to they could cut ties at the end.

For depth purposes I would like to keep Barnes, Shelley Smith and Chris Williams as well.

With all that said you will notice we are down a SLB and S

1a - Trade with Chargers for this years 1st round and 2nd round and next years 3rd round

1b - Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - CB

We are rated 19th in the league in pass defense. We are also ranked 26th in the pass and 17th in rushing, while being 15th against the rush. With the 13th pick in the draft I believe Ekpre-Olomu gives us the best chance to become a steady contender without sacrifice.

1c - Hasean Clinton-Dix - FS

Piggyback on the last sentiment, 49ers go OL twice in the first round, I go DB twice. That’s how I roll.

2a - Daquan Jones - DT

He will make an instant impact on the D-line, playing alongside Michael Brockers for years to come. The D-Line is and always will be our staple in the NFC Best. Seahawks have the DB’s, 49er’s have their LB’s and we have our Dline. The Cardinals you ask? Patrick Peterson, case closed. I think this is the best value at our spot.

2b - Chris Borland - ILB

Taking over the SLB role JLD left behind, Borland has the intelligence and drive to be a MLB or a run stuffing SLB. Not only will he pick up where JLD left off, I believe we will be in a better position.

3 - Arthur Lynch - TE

Pure run blocking TE, with the emergence of the running game, I am ok with that.

4 - Jawuan James - OT

I trust that Mr. Boudreau can polish him into a fine RT in the case Rodger Saffold leaves after 2 years

5 - J.C. Copeland - FB

6 - Brandon Thomas - OG

7 - Kenny Guiton - QB
