The St. Louis Rams handed out a few awards on Monday. The players and coaches voted, and five of 2013’s standouts were honored by their teammates. Without further ado...

Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

Robert Quinn earning top honors this year as the team’s MVP comes as no surprise. The Rams’ DE wreaked havoc on opposing left tackles and quarterbacks for the entirety of 2013, and he missed winning the first ever Deacon Jones [Sack] Award by 1/2 sacks. Several players had solid 2013 seasons, but no player stood out - or dominated - like Quinn.

A Closer Look at the Awards:

Daniel F. Reeves Award - Handed out annually as voted upon by the team’s players and coaches. Daniel F. Reeves was the owner of the Cleveland/Los Angeles Rams from 1941 to 1971.

Last Year’s Winner: Steven Jackson [won four consecutive times between 2009 and 2012]

Carl Ekern Spirit of the Game Award: Given, annually to the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, work ethic, and commitment to his teammates. Ekern was a former Rams’ linebacker who played for the LA Rams between 1976-1988.

Walter Payton Man of the Year Award: The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award is the only league award that recognizes a player's off-the-field community service as well as his playing excellence.

Each year, a winner is selected from 32 nominees from the 32 different teams. A panel of judges, which includes the Commissioner of the NFL, Connie Payton (widow of Walter Payton), the previous year's winner, and a number of former players, selects the winner of the award. The Man of the Year winner receives a $25,000 donation in his name to a charity of his choice. The other 31 finalists also receive donations in their name of $1,000 each to charities of their choice. - Wikipedia
