I thought it would be or could be a good time, and even telling to hear about how we all became Rams fans, or hopefully at least some of us. I'd be happy with even one or two. For the record, I'm perfectly fine with being patronized. So I decided to put this out there, with a poll, for anyone who'd like to fess up, or just throw me a bone.
I often find that there's something worthwhile in considering the reasons why we become dedicated to certain things, be it bands, writers, artists, or in this case, the Rams. My reason isn't new & exciting, yet it is a fond memory for me. I grew up in Los Angeles and the Rams were there at the time. My Dad was watching a Laker game on TV. I asked him who he was pulling for & why. He told me that he always backed the home team. I look up to my Dad and that's how I became a Rams fan.
Tracing it back for me brought back a fond memory. Tracing it back for my Cowboy fan friend, did I say Cowboy fan & my friend ? I meant acquaintance. Tracing that one back makes me laugh, not because he likes Dallas, though that's pretty hillarious too. But it's because on one Thanksgiving Day when he was about 8, his 10 year old brother was watching Washington & Dallas play. He asked his brother, " Who do you want ? ". His brother waited until he found out Washington was leading and decided that was his team. My acquantance replied, " No way, the Redskins suck. Cowboys rule ! ". Thanks to sibling rivalry, they're both die hard fans 40 years later. I once saw them come to blows over it when they were in their early 20's. With acquaintances like that, who needs Mel Brooks ?
I'm sure that for some of you, there's something telling in your reasons too. Maybe a laugh, a tear, possibly a psychological analysis. Pondering it alone I believe is worthwhile, but if anyone would like to share, I for one, would appreciate hearing it.
I made a poll. For the cities listed, it means you live or lived there or maybe near there. That answer may not be the most exciting, but I think it would be interesting to see. The GSOT option probably needs no explanation, but I'm refering to becoming a fan after seeing The Warner Bros. For anyone who chooses the ' Player or Players ' option, or the ' Other ' option - if you're so inclined and have the time to share what the reason is or who the players are, I for one would appreciate reading it.
