This is largely in response to the frustrated AnAngryRamsFan and his rant.
Brother, I feel you.......but......
Like you and everyone here, I really wanted to see us make a playoff appearance. Tis not to be....alas!
At the moment, we seem to be poised to finish .500 on the year. There is a caveat here.....Seattle must win next week against Arizona. I believe they will and that will give Seattle the division and homefield, thus making their final game against us pointless........in that situation, I see Seattle giving their starters the day off, especially considering the pounding we gave Russell Wilson last time. Why risk needless injuries?
Before the season started, someone(I forget who, but from one of the major sports sites), stated that Jeff Fisher would be a serious candidate for Coach of the Year, if we finished any better than 8-8. The reasoning was two-fold...the incredibly young team at his disposal and one of the harshest schedules in the league. Reading that months ago, it made sense then and even more sense now.
We certainly didn't start off with a bang, but then it got worse.....our starting QB went down for the season and at the time, we had no run game. It looked like we might be headed for a 3-13 type season!
Then things started to happen though......Zac and Cunningham stepped up in a big way, Tavon occasionally found some space, Clemens avoided mistakes, if not exactly setting the scoreboard on fire, the defense began to gel. Tough teams got a beat down.....The Colts, Saints, Bears.....statistically, Seattle got annihilated.....yes, except for the one stat that counts.....damn it.
In short, while we were all hoping for more, this is a good team with a bright future. We need to see this season for what it was, one of building....real building, real progress on a contender. It was gritty and hard, full of pathos and triumph. As a 30+ year Rams fan, I am happy with what Snead and Fisher are accomplishing and am very confidant that our off season moves will polish this team to a high shine......the NFC West had better watch out next year!
