With Washington and San Francisco playing tonight, it has left me in a quandry: who should I root for?
The Case for Washington: Typically, I always root against San Francisco, especially with us trying to chase them down for playoff spot #6. I don't think we can chase down Carolina, so we are left with having to be the #2 spot in the NFC West (while being ahead of everyone else). A loss tonight for SF will go a long way in making that happen, along with a victory against them next week and sweeping Arizona.
The Case for San Francisco: The draft trade we will always remember, RG3 for the multitude of picks that resulted afterwards. We have 1 last chance to benefit, with a potential top 5 pick as a payout. While our playoff chances are alive, they are still very slim; whereas, a high pick has a very real value. Even if we made the playoffs, our Super Bowl chances would be very slim, requiring road victories at multiple hostile environments against arguably more talented teams. A payoff in the present vs. rooting for the future...
Overall, I am rooting for SF to win. I don't think we have enough to be a championship caliber team right now. Potentially, we get a top OT, or trade that pick down and load up with Clinton-Dix, an OG, a CB, or something along those lines. Hopefully, this is the last SF win on the season.
