So at the half way point in the 2013 season, and with the Rams season all but over due to a season ending injury to Bradford and with the 4th toughest schedule, I think its okay to look ahead for the 2014 draft. Even though, I dont want to see the Rams tank this season, the hopes of a .500 record or better are rather bleak. What I would like to see is for the rookies and 2nd year players to see more playing time, grow, and become more familiar with the system so that by next year they will be ready to impact from the start. That means for the 2nd year guys: Michael Brockers, Brian Quick, Janoris Jenkins, Trumaine Johnson, Chris Givens, and Daryl Richardson all need to see the field as much as they can. Mainly Brian Quick! He has to step up in the 2nd half of the season, even without Bradford. As for the 2013 class: I want to see Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, Barrett Jones, Brandon McGee, and Zac Stacy to get more snaps too. Stacy has shown that he can be the starter for the RB committee. However, with Finnegan playing poorly, I would like to see McGee get some shots here and there. As for the WRs: both former WVU wideouts need to learn the playbook and the speed of the NFL. Les Snead can draft all the guys he wants but if Quick, Austin, and Bailey dont know what the plays are then Bradford is still going to be the same quarterback. Anways, as for the 2014 Draft, I am hoping we can receive two Top-10 picks. Right now we have the #5 and the #10 pick. However, I can see the Falcons, Texans, and Eagles all finishing with a better record than the Rams. The question is where the Redskins finish. 6-10? If so does that land us a pick inside the Top 8? After seeing some the 2014 draft class, here is what I would like to see happen in the first 2 rounds.
Round 1 Pick 5 - Jake Matthews (OT) - Texas A&M : "He can take over Rodger Saffold's position at RT since we will probably let Saffold go at free agency due to injury concerns throughout his career."
Round 1 Pick 10 - Sammy Watkins (WR) - Clemson : "The man can flat out play the wideout position. Watching him catch the football is a thing of beauty. And even though the Rams have Austin, Quick, Givens, Pettis, and Bailey - I really want Watkins. He can stretch the field, he can catch slant routes. He can do it all. Then in 2014, Bradford will have Watkins and Quick/Givens on the outside and Tavon in the middle. Oh...and I forgot Sammy Waktins WILL BE the next Larry Fitzgerald."
Round 2 Pick 43 - AJ McCarron (QB) - Alabama : "With Bradford entering his final year in his contract after the 2014 season, if Bradford doesnt perform as he should, then I wouldnt be opposed to McCarron taking the reins for St Louis Rams. He doesnt turn the ball over and hes a fierce competitor. He's been coached at Alabama by Saban so he should have a hint of NFL ability in him. Also, I wont ever forget him yelling at Barrett Jones in the NCAA Championship game...even when they were winning huge against Notre Dame. Plus, Barrett Jones and AJ McCarron could be reunited again.
What do you guys think of this?
