As per request by the incomparable Ramsrock, it is time to see which NFL coach we at TST love to hate. But first a quick re-cap of the most hated team poll.
The Patriots "won" the most hated NFL team poll, garnering 26% of the vote, followed closely by the 49ers (25%) and the Seahawks (24%). The Cowboys finished a distant 4th, with 8% of the vote. Nothing surprising in those numbers to me. The Patriots cheated the Rams out of a Superbowl title and a place in history, changing the trajectory of both teams that day. If anyone thinks that feeling isn't prevalent even amongst former Rams players, then check out Marshall Faulk's tweet about the "robbers getting robbed" in regards to the no-call at the end of last nights Patriots-Panthers game. The 49ers are the Rams oldest and fiercest rival and would easily be the most hated were it not for the "robbers" from Boston. The Seahawks make sense as a close 3rd because they have been the most successful team in the NFC West since divisional realignment after the 2001 season, winning the NFC West 5 times, and making the playoffs 7 times overall since then, including 1 Superbowl appearance. Those 7 playoff appearances by the Seahawks since 2002 equals the total playoff appearances of the Rams, Cardinals, and 49ers combined in that same span. Now, If this poll were taken pre-2001 the 49ers win in a landslide. The Cowboys probably take 2nd place pre-2001, as they weren't that far removed from their 3 Superbowl titles in the 90's, and they still came in 4th today even though they only have 1 playoff win and have been nothing more than a .500 team over the past 17 seasons. That's how getting robbed of a Superbowl coupled with divisional realignment can impact a fans perspective I guess. Anyway, on to the coaches.
I will list some of today's current crop of head coaches, and will throw in several of the more memorable coaches from both the NFL's past, and the Rams' past in particular. The following list is fairly comprehensive, but obviously I've left out several coaches of note. If there is anyone you don't see on the list but they're on top of yours, feel free to call them out in the comments. For what it's worth, my money is on Bill Bellichick and Jim Harbaugh finishing one and two in the competition for most hated. Does that mean I think these guys are bad coaches? No, I think both are good coaches. I just don't like their demeanor, or what I see as a lack of integrity (Spygate anyone?) and respect for the game. Of course there are a couple of dark-horse candidates on the list... So, Who do you love to hate?
