Bradford getting hurt on Sunday was everybody's worst fear. I don't think there was a person out there who had confidence that this team could succeed with Kellen Clemons or Austin Davis under center. Shame on Mr. Snead and Coach Fisher for leaving the team in this position. As bad as that may seem the real concern is what this means for the future. While the team is young and growing and for most part been looking to be on the upswing there are still some real concerns that I fear may now be over looked or excused because of the futile QB situation.
Schottenheimer has his ups and downs like any coach, but I don't think I am alone in thinking his handling of all of these great new "weapons" has been dismal. There appears to be a lack of creativity and a stubbornness that hes the smartest coach on the field. The pure lack of offensive adjustment during games is mind melting and don't get me started on the 30+ rushing attempts of Richardson between the guards for 0 yards. Now, I fear, all of this will get overlooked and excused because "look at the quarter back he had to deal with." If Sam had stayed healthy this team would have been lucky to win 8 games, now they'll be lucky to win 4, neither is close to what anyone expected.
This isn't limited to only the offense. The defense has regressed in a big way this year and the only major change anyone can really point to is Tim Walton. He seems to have an affinity to running a very conservative soft defense that gives up huge chunks of yards and then tries to keep the opponent to a a field goal instead of a touch down. This philosophy is frustrating and for the most part this year has been a catastrophic failure.
I worry that all of these things will now be excused as part of yet another wasted Rams season and 2014 will hold the same empty hope as the last decade.
