I'm just going to be straight with you guys. That game was frustrating. However I saw a team play as hard as it can but came up short because lack of discipline. The fire in the game was nice to see but it was dumb at times. The offense looked good for the most part but failed, uncharacteristcally, in the redzone. The offense opened up more and threw the ball down the field to get into scoring position but then we failed to get touchdowns. This hurt us pretty bad.
Defensively I thought we played against the run well but the passing game is another story. We play a defense where the offense takes what the we give them. We let cam throw only two incompletions all day because of this soft mentality. I would like to see our defense play more physical on the outside. I fear we hope too much that the qb will make a bad throw instead of playing tight coverage. This and stupid penalties is why we are 3-4 this year and loss this game.
The drive I thought that could have changed the game was the opening drive if the third quarter by the panthers. We had a 3 & out, but holding on Tru caused a first down. Later in the drive there was a 3rd and 3. We were called for encroachment which looked like the refs blew the call and tried to avoid the hostility of the fans and called Long on a penalty. This extended the drive again and Long would be kicked out during the drive. The panthers only got a field goal but wasted 8 minutes off the clock. The drive that could have been a 3 & out ended with three points and half of a quarter gone.
The team could have rolled over and died but they didn't. Bradford threw a beauty to Quick for 73 yards and Stacy would catch a TD. This showed me that the team wants to win and is hungry to win. As Ram fans we have seen our past teams just throw in the towel in the second half and get embarrassed. The team fought through the thickness of the Carolina fans but came up short, but the desire to win was there. Even in their wins this year(besides Texans), the Rams look like a team trying not to lose, today was different. Lastly, I wish Bradford a speedy recovery and hopefully it wasn't anything serious.
I appreciate those that took the time to read this and please comment on your thoughts of the game.
