Hello again TST! I'm here to present my grades for the 2012 Rams rookie class since the year ended without a playoff berth sadly. The Rams did make it interesting for everyone until the bitter end, however. I do apologize for not being actively involved at TST due to a myriad of factors. You can find the midseason grades here.
14. Michael Brockers DT LSU
Brockers got his stuff together and came on late in the year. I'm improving his grade from the dismal D I gave him to a C+. He is helped out tremendously by the fact that the rookie OL picks have struggled mightily.
33. Brian Quick WR Appalachian State
Well, turns out I was right about this one. Quick has barely seen the field in his short tenure with the Rams. In a rookie WR class that has disappointed for various reasons, Quick and his draft position makes it one of the most disappointing cases. Fellow rookie wideout Chris Givens passed him up the depth chart.
Old Pick Grade: D-
New Pick Grade: F
39. Janoris Jenkins CB UNA/UF
A gamble that has paid off handsomely for Fisher and Snead. He has stabilized the suspect secondary with Cortland Finnegan. This might be the steal of the draft so far. He really benefits from having a great veteran in Finnegan to show him the pro ropes. Jenkins finished the year with a flourish.
old Pick Grade: A
new pick Grade: A
50. Isaiah Pead RB Cincinnatti
Pead did little of any consequence in 2012 and was passed up by a fellow Rams rookie, Daryl Richardson. Well, you can't win em all, I guess. Alfred Morris and Doug Martin having stellar rookie seasons really make this selection look horrible.
old Pick Grade: C
new pick Grade: D
65. Trumaine Johnson CB/S Montana
Johnson played relatively well when he has been called upon in limited snaps. Another successful middle round pick by the new regime. Factors working against him though are plenty such as less time and the good play by Janoris Jenkins. Johnson looks like a good nickel corner to have on the roster and to fill in when Finnegan/Jenkins gets hurt.
old Pick Grade: A
new Pick Grade: A
96. Chris Givens WR Wake Forest
Givens really took off after Amendola's injury and broke out to a decent rookie campaign. He gave Bradford a deep threat that previously was severely lacking on the roster. The passing up of much more heralded rookie teammate Brian Quick was the coup de grace for him. He made Quick almost irrelevant.
old Pick Grade: A
new Pick Grade: A
150. Rokevious Watkins G South Carolina
He played well enough to earn a starting gig in camp. This grade will improve slightly because of that fact but with some caution due to his injury. I did not foresee him being anything more than practice squad material, but he surprised everyone by earning the spot fair and square. Alas, he's on IR
old Pick Grade: C
new Pick Grade: F or Incomplete
171. Greg Zuerlein K Missouri Western
Did nothing to sway my high marks of him, although he had a couple of misses that were a little head scratching and concerning. Legatron is a steal of a kicker.
old Pick Grade: A
new Pick Grade: A
209. Aaron Brown LB Hawaii
Cut.
old Pick Grade: F
new Pick Grade: F
252. Daryl Richardson RB Abilene Christian
He played very well for the carries he was given down the stretch. Richardson passed Pead up the chart as the preferred backup to Steven Jackson. He very well could be the feature back if Jackson retires or is released.
old Pick Grade: B
new Pick Grade: A
Overview: What I wrote in October still stands true. 2012 was a nice debut draft for Fisher and company. He found 6 quality starters and backups out of the 10 picks given to him. The misses weren't huge but a noticeable problem that really needs to be addressed in the 2013 draft.
old Pick Grade: B+
new Pick Grade: A
