Rams Dodge the Rob Ryan Bullet

Rams Will Not Hire Rob Ryan (via ESPN)

The Rams dodged a bullet here!

So the Rams have hired Rob Ryan twice now and both times the reports have not panned out. This report came up about 3 hrs ago and took me alittle by surprise. But I have to say I am pleased.

It was reported that the Rams and Ryan met to discuss the vision for the defense and that is where the disagreement came from. Rob Ryan runs a 3-4 defense and Fisher has always run a 4-3. Rob Ryan has operated a 4-3 defense in the past. But apparently he could not budge for his 3-4 philosophy, even if it would have helped to earn him a job. This raises a few questions about Ryan.

The Rams were very successfull last season and lead the lead in sacks. They have three terrific defensive ends in Chris Long, Robert Quinn, and William Hayes. They have a stout pair of defensive tackles in Michael Brockers and Kendall Langford. WE have the perfect defensive line for the 4-3 defense and it has done a great job in making the Rams relevant again.

People were nervous to see how a loose cannon like Rob Ryan would work with an established coach like Jeff Fisher. Apparently it did not work well. What an ego on Ryan's part. He will do what he wants to do when he wants to do it. He forgoes a job on an up and coming team that may have served as a spring board to the head coachings ranks just because he can't play the way he wants to. Pretty childish if you ask me.

If you are a Ram's fan that is still worried about how soon the Ram's will get a defensive coordinator relax. The season isn't even over we still have the Super Bowl. Jeff Fisher worked without a defensive coordinator last year. He had a LB coach, Blake Williams, calling plays. Coach Fisher will pick the best person to be our defensive coordinator.

IN FISHER WE TRUST

I would rather Fisher takes his time to pick a good defensive coordinator than pick one that takes a, 'my way or the highway", approach. I don't care if he got along well with the players on the Cowboy's defense. He would cause a schism in the lockerroom that would've been damaging. Plus, last time I checked the Ram's were going up, unlike the Cowboys.

Smart move Fisher. Better luck next time Rob.
