St. Louis Rams - Blake Williams Let Go

Stay connected for news and updates

Jeff Curry-US PRESSWIRE

Jay Glazer and NBC Sports are reporting Blake Edwards, the Rams linebacker coach and occasional defensive coordinator in 2012, has been let go.

Blake arrived in St. Louis with his father Gregg Williams, who'd been hired by Jeff Fisher as the Rams defensive coordinator. When the elder Williams fell from grace due to his involvement in the New Orleans Saints "bounty" scandal, the Rams never filled the coordinator void. Instead, Fisher and his staff managed the role by committee. The 27 year old Blake handled defensive play calling duties for the most part, but little is known whether he developed game day defensive schemes.

This will heighten the speculation that Fisher has found his "guy" to fill the defensive coordinator role. Included in the news of Blake's removal is a second hand statement quoting Williams that his father's possible return to the Rams isn't going to happen.
