The one thing that makes me cringe is who our free agents are this year. We have a lot of picks in the next two drafts and 8 in the first 3 rounds. But, overall, this free agency period is what will set this all straight. It has the ability to shape our team for the next 10 years and setup our draft picks. Now, there are two names that sit in my mind as must signs. One, and most importantly, William Hayes. He bring great depth and pass rush skill into the front 4. He is the most underrated player on this team. Two, Steven Jackson. I know he's older. But we absolutely need him back. He's the leader of this team. Whether or not he's a 3rd down back or not, his presence is much needed.
Now, every other free agent, even Danny Amendola, no matter how much we love him, is replaceable. He would save us money and we won't have to worry about his injury prone body.
If we lose Hayes, which is our wild card, I see our draft looking like this:
1.16 - Chance Warmack G
1.22 - Sam Montgomery DE
2.16 - Dallas Thomas RT
3.16 - Bacarri Rambo FS
4.16 - Daniel McCullers DT
But, if we don't, I see it more on the lines of this:
1.16 - Johnathan Hankins DT
1.22 - Eric Reid FS
2.16 - Alec Ogletree OLB
3.16 - Larry Warford G
4.16 - Ricky Wagner RT
With the type of team Jeff Fisher likes to coach, you have to have a strong defense. With how good our defense is right now, keeping Hayes would help us in more ways than one. It would let him strengthen his defense and sure up the offensive line. Hopefully, also adding a TE in the 5th round. Someone like Michael Williams from Alabama would help with blocking and add a threat opposite of Lance Kendricks and allow Chris Givens to man the slot. Drafting a return man in the 6th like Josh Boyce from TCU would fill out a need for a 4th receiver. Finally, he would be able to take a chance on a small school player in the 7th.
