The St. Louis Rams will have left tackle Rodger Saffold in their home opener against the Washington Redskins. He is active and will start the game, just a week after suffering a neck sprain that looked like it could have been far more serious. Washington will be without wide receiver Pierre Garcon, who is dealing with a foot injury.
Saffold's return is a real shot in the arm for a Rams team that has suffered some early season injury woes. It was more than a little frightening when he was carted off the field in a body brace on Sunday last week, but head coach Jeff Fisher sounded confident about Saffold's status after tests revealed no significant damage.
#Rams inactives: DT Brockers, DT Conrath, G Watkins, RB Ganaway, QB Davis, S Stewart, G Smith.— St. Louis Rams (@STLouisRams) September 16, 2012
Another week without Darian Stewart will leave the same questions for the Rams secondary, which had some weaknesses at the safety spot last week. Other than Davis, Smith and Ganaway, the inactive players are all injured.
