Per a report from dbcouver and Rando - not to mention Rotowire - the Rams have signed former first round draft pick Vernon Gholston to the roster. The 6'3", 260 lbs. underachiever has had a tough road during his NFL career. After being taken with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 draft by the New York Jets, he never lived up to his pre-draft hype. Mel Kiper was of course stunned, but I think he once wanted the Rams to draft a sock puppet in the first round in 2005? I have no details on his contract, or if he's been signed on a "We'll see" basis and not guaranteed a roster spot.
The signing raises a few questions. First, where will he fit in? Second, WHY!
