The Rams have some very talented running backs in camp. Isaiah Pead has demonstrated great promise in the return game. He is an explosive threat in space with the ablity to take it to the house. Daryl Richardson has had his moments, most notably against The Chiefs with his first NFL touchdown. At this point I see Pead and Richardson as change of pace backs who are better on the perimeter than running between the tackles.
Calvin Middleton seems to be a more complete running back. He is a strong inside runner; a seemingly one cut downhill runner who hits the hole with a great deal of power. Middleton seems comfortable catching passes out of the backfield. He secures the ball and gets upfield quickly.
If The Rams need a back to carry the load for a period of time, Middleton IMO would be that back. At 5'10 220, he has the size and the thick build to effectively deal with that type of pounding. If The Rams want to employ a physical run game, backs like SJAX and Middleton would fit that type of role. I understand that Pead and Richardson are draft picks and will get the most touches. Still, Middleton is a running back that IMO, The Rams should carefully consider.
