All hail Pickle Juuce!
Some thoughts on first pre season game...
Andrew Luck and the Rams Defensive Line/pass rush have been the focal point of the training camps for both teams. That being said, perfect play call for Andrew Lucks first pass in the NFL! A screen on a team that is going to pin its ears back and rush the passer. Luck was forced out of the pocket multiple times, but made pays with his scrambling ability. I was impressed with what I saw up front. Our Coverage needs to tighten up, but that may take a bit longer because of communication errors and what not. I really liked Jenkins and Johnson, they played to their 2nd and 3rd rnd draft hype. They will both be big contributors on defense this year.
Offense still looked off a beat or two. This system will be great for Sam, he just needs more time with his wide receivers and a sense of comfort knowing he will be protected in the pocket. Pead looked Horrible at first, although he got in a groove as he got more adjusted. He can get to the edge and catch the ball well, expect big things from 24. Our WR problems are over, we don't have a true number 1 wide out, but we have a group of guys that can get it done. I still expect to get a elite wide out in the next couple drafts but we can work with what we have. The time for Sam to take control of the offense is now. Sam will mature this year and be that QB we all know he can be. Salas, Givens, Pettis and Quick are all promising young wide outs. Im excited to see what we can do.
Contrary to what people on TST may think, no one has anointed Luck a HOFer. Luck was the best prospect to come int this league since number 18. That's not media hype, that's the truth, the kid is very good at his position. I expect him to out play most of the Qbs this year. He makes plays with his eyes, feet and arm. The only thing keeping the Colts from winning last year was a QB, not they have him. Im also not so sure they put in the worst possible QB in order to lose all of those games. Suck for Luck.
