Favorite Players Without A Chance Part 3. The Undrafted.

The draft is over but there is still amazing talent that has gone undrafted. If you think that UDFA's never produce let me just throw a few names at you. Antonio Pierce, Arian Foster, Ryan Grant, Bart Scott, Brian Waters, London Fletcher, Jason Peters, Pat Williams, Adam Vinatieri, Jeff Saturday, Wayne Chrebet, Jeff Garcia, Wes Welker, James Harrison, Tony Romo, Priest Holmes, Antonio Gates, Rod Smith, John Randle, Dick "Night Train" Lane, Warren Moon, and Kurt Warner. UDFA's aren't always this good but there is always a chance that you may end up with a superstar player. We are hoping to at least find serviceable starters or special teamers but we are hoping that we find the next super star. These are the players that I like the most out of the UDFA's that we have already picked up.

Sammy Brown, LB, Houston

How Sammy went undrafted is beyond me. The guy led the nation in tackles for loss and was fifth in the nation in sacks. Sammy ran a 4.63 fourty at his pro day. He is 6 foot 2 inches and weighs 232 pounds. Some people say he lacks athleticism but nobody said James Laurinaitis Or Luke Kuechly were the most athletic guys around.

DeAngelo Peterson, TE, LSU

Nothing about this guy physicaly would make you think he's a tight end yet that's what he's listed as. He ran a 4.76 fourty at the combine and had a 36 inch vertical. Nobody is going to say that blocking is his strong suit. He had a foot injury at the beginning of the season which is why he may have slipped out of the draft. He only had 17 receptions for 172 yards and 1 touchdown last season but the LSU QB situation wasn't the best last year. He was projected to be a sixth round pick but needs to be tougher and not give up on plays.

Joe Long, OL, Wayne State

Joe is the Giant on the far left of the picture. Wayne State University is in Detroit Michigan for those of you who don't know. If you also didn't know Joe Long is the younger brother of Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long. Joe is massive at 6 foot 6 and 308 pounds and did 21 reps of 225 at his pro day. Joe is most likely a depth pick up. He needs to get stronger to play at the NFL level. Joe Long won the Gene Upshaw Divison 2 lineman of the year award while at Wayne State.

Alex Hoffman-Ellis, OLB, Washington State

During his career at Washington State Hoffman-Ellis Appeared in 35 games, made 33 starts and tallied 253 total tackles, 178 solo while also recording four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. His stock was rising before the draft and he had hopes of being drafted. Unfortunately for him he wasn't drafted but he can find a spot on special teams with us and has a shot at starting.

Austin Davis, QB, Southern Mississippi

When we got him I had no idea who he was but a lot of you guys seemed excited about him. Austin Davis was successful in college winning the only 2 bowl games he was in. He was a Freshman All-Conference USA selection in 08 the year he beat Troy in the New Orleans bowl. He is the winningest QB in Southern Mississippi history and broke the single season season record for touchdown passes thrown by a freshman. The previous record holder? Brett Favre. He is a Conerly Trophy winner which is given to the best college player in Mississippi and a Burlsworth Trophy winner which is given to the most outstanding college football player who began his career as a walk-on. The Conerly Trophy has been held by NFL stars such as Patrick Willis, Jerious Norwood, Eli Manning (twice), and Deuce McAllister.

Matt Daniels, S, Duke

Matt Daniels is a 6 foot 212 pound Safety who ran a 4.48 fourty at his pro day. He posted 126 tackles and earned team mvp honors last season. He was also selected to the All-ACC first team.

Thin, high-cut, functionally strong box safety/run supporter with outstanding character, including leadership traits and a professional work ethic. However, is a liability in man coverage given his stiff hips and monotone movement and is not ideally suited to excel on special teams. Propped up his stock with pro-day showing, including a 35½-inch vertical leap.

In my opinion he is also a strong run defender. He's a sold tackler and a hard hitter. Here's a video that shows that and some of his leadership traits.

Here's a list of his accomplishments. That video also gives some of his accomplishments and stats. Matt is an intriguing UDFA to say the least.

Well that's my list. Lets hope that some of these guys can at least help this team in some way.
