Power moves, veteran wisdom at play in Rams Park!

Brian Quick 2011 Highlights WR Appalachian State (via xuesac84)

Ok you saw what I saw last night right? Yeah it was exactly what the rookie cap is supposed to do; make the draft even more exciting! Do you really think all of the trades that happened would have under the "pay out the nose for a rookie" years? Hell no! Yet now, it is a new day, so Rams brethren, let's jump in!

I had the chance to spend time in a small place called Backwater Jacks in Osage Beach, MO this past Thursday for first night of the draft! It was perfect! Crab legs, chicken wings and $2 beers! My wife and I were poised for a fantastic evening. So it was.

We had been watching ESPN all day seeing what all the draftniks had to say, but something just felt different on this draft day. It felt a little uneasy, but a good uneasy. Like something was gonna happen. It did. All mock drafts became obsolete once news of the Browns trading up for Trent Richardson at #3. It was officially "on"! Trades went a flyin' and you find ball clubs getting real aggressive for their player. The one they believe in. Their guy.

For the Rams, they got caught in a draft day drive by with a trade with the Bucs and Jacksonville. "Pow" right in the jaw! Multiple articles had Fisher cussin about this! It's cool coach, so would I, but ok what do we do now? Les Snead comes in like a real GM and makes the move with Dallas, getting more picks in the value stacked 2nd round along with #14. This is called "Draft Chess 101". Long before the draft, you go over ever scenario that could possibly happen, so all parties were not happy about losing Blackmon or Floyd, but were prepared with a plan if they were not there. Right about then, I am poppin my second brew, on my second cluster of crab legs and setting one of the wings on deck. Salad is history.

Michael Brockers? I remember that his Combine was not all that great, but he's huge! 6' 5", 322 lbs. (though I think he said in his intro interview that he is 315?) He's also young, but when I started looking at some video on him, he gets after the QB. So why do so many call him a run stuffer? Needless to say, Chris Long, Kendall Langford, Vet / Michael Brockers and Robert Quinn will make things difficult for O-Lines all around the division. We will not be Stay Puft but Rams Tuff this year on the D-Line!

So right then I start seeing the comments from my fellow fans. Furious, angry, scratching their heads as to why we did not grab one of the top 5 receivers? First, I don't think that anyone really saw Jacksonville making the move they did, although I do believe the scenario was discussed at Rams Park. Secondly, I really did not see the Cardinals going WR. Call me crazy, but they have enough WR's. It's the QB position that has need for stability. Lastly, A.J. Jenkins going to San Francisco threw me for a loop completely. Then I thought about it...might want to keep drama down to a minimum this year Mr. Crabtree. Just sayin.

Now we look to the second round and a lot of fans are acting as though nothing is there, but I beg to differ. News Flash: WE NEED BIG BODY RECEIVERS! Welcome to the Rams Mr. Quick! I like what the front office is doing Rams Fans and so should you!
