2012 NFL Draft Trade Rumors: Fletcher Cox Could Be The Rams' Ticket To Trading Down

Stay connected for news and updates

The St. Louis Rams may have a prime spot if teams are interested in trading up for Fletcher Cox, assuming the Rams don't want to draft him.

If the St. Louis Rams are looking to trade down, then the team's interest in Fletcher Cox could be key. According to Jason LaCanfora, other teams are interested in trading up to the fifth spot to draft Cox, leapfrogging the Rams and Fisher's distinct lean toward taking defensive players in the draft.

Of course, why trade up to the fifth spot when you can trade up to the sixth. Fisher and GM Les Snead have also talked plenty about trading down in the draft, or even up. Such a move would probably net them a second- or third-round pick on top of a switch in the first round. Don't bother using the old draft value chart anymore; that's pretty much been cast aside with the new rookie wage system.

Cox would benefit the Rams too, adding some power to their middle of their defensive line. Trading down would open up far more options for the team, including some receivers in the non-Justin Blackmon category, guys like Michael Floyd or Kendall Wright who the team put through last minute workouts last weekend.

Teams known to have an interest in Cox, or at least a defensive tackle, include the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
