Trading down does not always work

Everyone here assumes the Rams will trade down from the #2 spot, including me. But I'm a little tired of reading all the panic recently that we won't be able to get about 20 first round picks for our #2. Worst case, we keep the pick and still get a great player. But trading down does not always work. Look at Ditka and the Saints when they traded their whole draft plus a 1 and 3 the following year to trade UP for Ricky Williams. Everyone thought the trade was a huge flop. But check out this article that shows that maybe that trade was actually a pretty good one and the players selected with the picks they gave away were not nearly the caliber of Ricky Williams. I was going to post the text, but to avoid the whole copyright thing, here's the link to the article. My point is, we can get a lot of picks that can turn out to be all garbage. Instead of having big eyes and being greedy, maybe taking Kalil at #2 is the best thing to do if we can't get 3 #1's and then some.
