Take a Closer Look at the Rams Defense

For the past 6 years the Rams have had one of the worst teams in the NFL. Their team has gone to the dogs and has undergone a huge rebuild. The offense is still a little uncertain, but the defense is really coming into shape. Almost every whole has been filled with a proven player or young promising player. Here's a look at where the defense stands.

Defensive End: Starters- Robert Quinn, Chris Long Backups- Eugene Sims

Defensive Tackle: Starters- Kendall LAngford, Darell Scott Backups- Jermelle Cudjo, Cornell Banks, John Henderson

Middle Linebacker: Starter- James Laurinaitis Backups- None Currently

Outside Linebackers: Starters- Justin Cole, Josh Hull Backups- none currently

Corner Backs: Starters- Cortland Finnegan, Bradley Fletcher Backups- Jerome Murphy, Josh Gordy, Marquis Johnson

Safeties: Starters- Quintint Mikell, Darian Stewart Backups- Craig Dahl, Brian Jackson

Now look at the names in bold, besides the OLBs and the 2nd starting DT it's a pretty hefty defense. Here are some of my thoughts about the D.

- The Robert Quinn and Chris Long duo will be very very good. Quinn is very fast and athletic and can only improve. Quinn is way ahead of schedule in becoming a great starter. He has tons of promise and will be a big part of the D. Chris Long on the other hand is turning into one of the best DEs in the league. These two DE's will turn into a formidable threat.

-I feel like the DT and OLB position will be strengthen heavily in the draft. At DE Kendall Langford was a good pickup. If we draft a guy like Fletcher Cox or Jerel Worthy to put alongside him it will be a good D Line. THink of a line with Long on one side, Langford and Worthy/ Cox on the inside, and Robert Quinn on the other side. At OLB I think we get one real premier OLB in the draft. Whether its Zach Brown, Lavonte David, or Ronnell Lewis. I then think we get another OLB to try to develop on the other side.

- Last you see the DBs, and wow they're shaping into a pretty good group. If fletcher can return to a high level and Cortland Finnegan continues to play well, there should be no worries come game time. Then you have Jerome Murphy and Josh Gordy backing up. Not too shabby of backups, and yes I mean Gordy too. He really started improving towards the end of the season. He's only 25 and will only be a backup. The safeties are also very good. Mikell was the only bright spot last year, and Darian Stewart really improved. Stewart is the starter coming into training camp and I think with one more season he can become a complete player and really contribute. Craig Dahl is also a good backup to have in case of injury.
