At the Wide Receiver position, there are currently 3-4 legitimate 1st rounders: Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, Kendall Wright, and Stephen Hill. They all have their strengths and weaknesses which we've been tirelessly exhausting discussion on, but tomorrow should just about decide how the WR big board will turn out. After all, tomorrow is Alshon Jeffery's pro day, where he's expected to finally run the 40-yd dash, along with all the other drills we've been dying to see. Seeing as his speed and his work ethic are by far his biggest question marks, his 40 time will be almost as important as it's hyped to be.
This could have HUGE implications on the first two rounds of this draft. If he runs a blazing fast time (Sub 4.4-4.5, which is not likely), He could move to as high as #1 on the WR big board.
If he runs an average time (4.5-4.6), he should at least solidify himself as a first round choice.
If he runs anything slower than a 4.65, he'll probably be a mid second rounder that has huge bust potential.
But what does this mean for the Rams?
Well, in the first scenario, it could guarantee that we would at least have a shot at a legitimate #1 receiving threat with the #6 overall pick. If one of the top 5 teams were to fall in love with Jeffery, we could still end up with Blackmon. Or vice versa.
If the second scenario is the case, one of the other top 4 receivers could potentially fall into the second round, where the Rams could snatch him up. The only two who could really fall out of the first round are Hill and Wright (Hill due to the lack of film and Wright due to his track speed not matching his game speed along with his lack of size). Either of these two men would be wonderful picks for the Rams in the early second round, and could be great #2 receivers, and even potentially a #1 with Hill in the long term.
If the third scenario is the case, it is almost a necessity that we end up with Blackmon in the first. The WR depth in this class would take a hit, and we would likely have to reach at any of our early round picks to grab one.
Should be fun to see how this plays out.
